Book list

Great Books….

Brainquake by Amy S. Morris

This is an amazing account of adult onset epilepsy. Amy tells this quite frankly and candidly as she discusses side effects of the medication including her heart attack at a very young age from seizure medication. She goes through a wide variety of losses and a very traumatic brain surgery to overcome her deepening depression. She has a Ph.D in Humanities from UCLA and worked at the Getty Research Institute for the History of Art and Humanities in LA.

Brainstorms Family Epilepsy on our terms Steven C. Schachter, MD

Stories by children with seizures and their parents

Rusty’s story by Carol Gino

story of epilepsy and inadequate care as told by a registered nurse. Rusty’s strong will and desire to survive is amazing. This was in the past decades where epilepsy care was lacking (reminds me of my husband’s uncle and what he must have been through)….

Takedown by E.M.Benjamin

Told from a teens perspective. Diagnosed while a teen and going through the changes and embarrassment and having to come to terms with it all. Warning of old use of terminology and some language but a good book to understand what a teen might go through….
